2012 SATMA AWARDS: ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE EASTERN CAPE

My culture, your culture, one nation...if you know things and you're a music fan definitely you know what I am talking about. The South African Traditional Music Achievement (SATMA) awards incepted in 2005 to promote, preserve, uplift, develop, stage multicultural exchanges, honour and award traditional musicians across racial and ethnic background. From 2006 until last years' 6th anniversary SATMA awards were hosted in KwaZulu Natal, but this year, all roads lead to Eastern Cape as SATMA will be hosted in EC for the first time.

According to satma website, on the 26 of  July public nominations were officially opened and this nomination process ended on the 9th of August 2012, this will be followed by the announcement of nominees 2012 which will take place on the 25th of August2012 at the Walter Sisulu University Zamukulunga campus in Mthatha starting at 18h00 to 19h00.

And the ambassador will be South African artist Ntando Bangani and official date of the event and the venue will be announced at the 2012 nomination announcement.

  1. This will surely be an intresting event to watch, our traditional music is not given much attention in the entertaintment idustry. I think tradional music should be given its rightful status and role in the South African music industry and the SATMA are a steping stone towards doing so.

  2. I have to agree with Thomas, traditional music is really not given much attention compared to the other genres of music. Thanks to the SATMA for trying by all means to remind people that traditional music is also as important as the other genres and as much interesting too. i think a lot still has to be done because its only a few young people who follow traditional music.

  3. Yes Mr Ndlovu it`s me against you bhutiza,you know that Saba Mbixane is the king of this thing my man,your Tshat`ugodo is not gonna make it hahaa. Anyway it makes me happy to see events like this,we are learning some leson that we should not abandon our culture. I really appreciate and love events like this.

  4. SATMA is such a wonderful event where some musicians expressing their cultural music.This event helps us not to forget where we are from,it helps us to stick on our roots.Sometimes i wish it should be done atleast every month a year.

  5. as much as they can make awards for traditional music they should do the sam for other music genres because the sama awards those not cover all aspects of music this will be a great ceremony many the best win

Traditional music is not that popular in today's generation and they are trying so hard to make sure that tghe music reach the market but doesn't have enough support compared to the music played today.Hopefully the event will be the best and big up to SATMA for keeping the traditonal music alive.

  8. wow its good to see the government appreciating our traditional music,maskandi does not get enough exposure and satmas are there to change that.
