What make other radio stations seem bigger and better than other radio stations? Is there such thing? What other radio stations can learn from other successful radio stations? While I was searching the winners of the 2012 MTN radio awards I wasn't surprised to see uKhozi fm (SABC radio station) scoring nine awards in one nights out of eleven nominations (the MTN radio awards was held in Johannesburg last weekend on the 14th April). I continued looking other radio stations hoping that they did the same but I found that most of them got one, two or three awards each, of which led me asking myself what is wrong with other radio stations? What strategies and techniques uKhozi fm uses to gain such publicity and to be the public favourite.
Each radio station has its own loyal listeners who always backup their radio stations, but what happened when it comes to votes? radio stations like Umhlobo wenene fm, Lesidi fm, Thobela fm have also a huge listenership -what happened to them? Out of all awards, the most wanted award was "the station of the year" which also taken by uKhozi fm of which led this radio station call (what they did this year's awards) as "OPERATION MBOH", by saying this, they're trying to show that they're big, bosses, strong, capable and passionate of what they're doing.

Thats a big achievement for Ukhozi FM ,big up from the management, technical operate and the work of presenters.This does not mine that the other station did not work hard but there is time where one makes better than others,listerners vote for what is best and of course uKhozi deserve it, even though one present was suspended last year on playing Malema song it shows that the reputation to serve listeners interest grow.CONTRATULATION UKOHZI
ReplyDeleteactully there were two presenters who got suspantion of one month.but that didnt affect them in such a way to get bad publicity, i can say big up to ukhozi public relation practitioners for a good handling on than issue.
DeleteThey deserve to be awarded, without fear or favour.. ukhozi is one of the best south african radio station with ubuntu.

DeleteThe reason why Ukhozi is always in the top of other Radio stations is that Ukhozi is more based on music and they playing good music,I think is what makes people to listen to Ukhozi because they playing good music than other radio stations do.

Deletei think the reason behind its popuralty it is because of thier content they have a rich conyent which is largely diverse,it caters for all age and gender and their music too

Deleteukhozi fm is one of the biggest radio stations in south africa, it deserved all the awards because they have good educational programes that iams at empowering the youth of south africa. well done to them.
ReplyDeletebeside their educational programmes,they also have their CSI programme called "ukhozi cares" of which is the sign of community upliftment and of caring their audience
DeleteUkhozi still have a long way to dominate in the national radio stations and looking on the number of people who are supporting it are the people who speaks the same language and their population is dominating in South Africa.
ReplyDeleteand it amazing to see african language radio station having more than 6.7 million listership per week and being number 2 in the world folling the China radio station.
DeleteBig Ups to Ukhozi for their hard work and great success. the awards are really a nice way of proving how organisations sell themselves to their target audience, because if you exceeed your audiences expectations then they will surely support you and end up winning prizes jusi like UKHOZI.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Grace, This radio station communicates the needs of the Public, it is with no surprise that it has scooped so many awards. Other radio station might be tackling different issues, but thats still ok, because it is not about competition but about the needs of the Public being met.
